Do I Necessarily Have To Undergo Orthodontic Treatment Before Orthognathic Surgery?

Not always. If patients have correctly aligned teeth in both the upper and lower arches, these are ideal candidates for the Surgery First protocol. This surgical protocol, unlike conventional orthognathic surgery, does not require orthodontics before surgery. For this reason, the Surgery First technique has significant advantages, as the patient can do without an orthodontic treatment before surgery, being able to choose the most appropriate time to perform the surgery and still obtaining immediate results after the surgery. However, the Surgery First protocol is defined in two phases: orthognathic surgery and a brief orthodontic treatment after surgery.
